SUPER GT Round 5 Suzuka Circuit Final
SUBARU BRZ GT300 Takes 3rd Place, First Podium of the Season 🔴🔵 🇯🇵 🌏 ✨☀️
Round 5 of the 2023 SUPER GT Series was held on Sunday, August 27th. The SUBARU BRZ GT300, which completely won the official qualifying on the previous day, started from pole position. We prepared for the final race with measures to deal with the intense heat and strategies to counter the strategies of rival teams.
Hideki Yamauchi will be in charge of the start, and will set up an escape. Yamauchi lived up to expectations by scoring the holeshot, and on the opening lap he was 2.31 seconds ahead of 2nd place. After that, he pulled away with each lap, and by the 14th lap, he had a huge lead of 8.520 seconds over 2nd place. However, the accumulated lead will be used up at the pit stop. Yamauchi was in charge of a double stint, and had to refuel and change tires before heading out to the pits, but the BRZ GT300, which had a long refueling time, dropped to 17th overall. Even after completing the first mandatory pit stop, 8th is a difficult position. However,
Yamauchi showed a furious catch-up from there and overwhelmed his rival machine. He recorded a lap time more than two seconds faster than the team that did not change tires, and at the end of the 38th lap, he showed the speed to return to the top once again. Yamauchi’s tires began to squeal, and he headed to the pits to replace Takuto Iguchi a little earlier than expected.
Iguchi returned to the track in 10th place overall, but was in 2nd place after completing his second obligatory pit stop. However, it will be FCY due to trouble with other machines. Cars No. 18 and No. 87 made their pit stops just before the FCY came out, and these two cars returned to the race in front of Iguchi, who could only run at 80km/h, which is the FCY regulation. And then we had the misfortune of restarting the race right after. As a result, Iguchi dropped to 6th overall. From there, Iguchi began to catch up, gradually regaining his position. However, there was a 15-second difference to the top, and although the situation was tough, he managed to return to 3rd place in the final lap. I received a checker atYamauchi.
“The pit time is something we do within the established rules, so it can’t be helped. Unfortunately, we were planning to run a little longer in the second stint, but the track temperature dropped and the tires didn’t fit well. , It was shorter than expected, but we were able to run our race without making any mistakes, so I think the content was good and I have no regrets.”
Iguchi
“When I saw Yamauchi’s first stint, I had a feeling that it would be the last race. Despite the circumstances, I’m glad I was able to move up to 3rd place. I didn’t make any mistakes in pit stop timing, tire selection, or the team’s decisions, so it’s frustrating, but I think it was a good race.»
Director Ozawa
“It’s a pity that we didn’t win, but I think it was good that we were able to do what we wanted in terms of strategy, and that we were able to bring it into a speed match. However, there is still room for improvement in terms of tire usage and strategies, so I was able to see that I could run faster, so I gained a lot from this race.Next is SUGO, which I am good at, so I want to catch up in the championship fight at once. ”
The next SUPER GT round 6, SUGO, will be held on September 16th (Sat) and 17th (Sun) at Sportsland Sugo in Murata, Miyagi Prefecture for a 300km race. Please support the SUBARU BRZ GT300 aiming for the series championship.
